Talented Thirteen Show Highland Design to Covet

Thirteen emerging and established fashion designers and jewellers from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland will be showcasing their work in Covet at Craft Central in London from 14-18 October 2014.

Deconstructed kilts, jewellery in shapes and materials inspired by the shoreline and harbours, knitwear for home and to wear, bags, scarves and new fashion collections, will all be there to discover and buy.

Covet is an initiative by Emergents, who nurture creative talent in the Highlands, and brings to London fashion designers Diggory Brown, Jen Deschenes, Hume Sweet Hume, Catriona MacAllister, Jill MacLennan and Kirsteen Stewart with jewellers Maike Browning , Gilly Langton, Heather McDermott, Patricia Niemann, Merlin Planterose, Helen Robertson and Lucy Woodley.

Many are already achieving recognition for their creative talents and highlights include:

Designer Annette Sopata of Diggory Brown (Isle of Lewis), who creates unique hand tailored contemporary kilts which have featured in Christopher Kane’s AW 2010/11 and 13/14 collections, will be presenting new designs created from deconstructing a kilt and made from traceable tweed from the Hebrides using the first new wool produced by Uist wool.

Fashion designer Catriona McAllister (Fochabers), who was nominated for the graduate of the year in the Scottish Fashion Awards 2012 and was a semi-finalist last year in Muuse X Vogue Talents, will be presenting limited edition past season pieces along with a limited edition capsule collection specifically for the Covet showcase.

Heather McDermott (Isle of Skye), who has created jewellery for Margaret Howell AW14 collection which is available at their flagship London store and online, and was selected to be part of a unique showcase of 21 pieces curated by internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid from the 170 designer-makers at Goldsmiths Fair in October 2014, will be showing her current collection with a unique special piece.

Fashion designer Kirsteen Stewart (Orkney), who recently met HRH Duchess of Cornwall during the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival, will be presenting her new AW 14 clothing collection inspired by Journeys, alongside her new silk scarf, leather bag and printed tote bag collections.
